Refresh your wardrobe this season with a fun, fall necklace DIY. It’s easy enough to make in a weekend and doesn’t require you to struggle with complicated jewelry hardware — just use neodymium magnets! Not only can you make this necklace your own with different pendant shapes and designs, but magnetic fasteners make it easy to create a variety of different necklaces to wear this autumn. You will need…
  • a set of magnetic jewelry clasps
  • wood pendant (1)
  • pencil
  • satin cord
  • scissors
  • jump ring (1)
  • Mod Podge Satin
  • Mod Podge Dimensional Magic
  • paintbrushes
  • an image of your choosing (Decorating Tip: Look in magazines or on packets or labels for a photo you like)
  • paint (in a coordinating color)
Step 1: Once you’ve found the image you want to use, trace the wood pendant onto your photo. Cut out the image along the line and set aside. Step 2: Paint the backside of the pendant with your color of choice. There’s no need to paint the front since the image will be covering it, but make sure to paint the edges so that wood isn’t showing on the areas where your image isn’t covering the pendant. Step 3: Brush an even layer of Mod Podge onto the front of the pendant and lay your cut-out image on the wood, smoothing it down as you go. Let it dry for 10-15 minutes. Step 4: Punch out the hole for the jump ring attachment with a pencil or other small object. Step 5: Brush the entire pendant with another layer of Mod Podge and let dry. Step 6: Once the Mod Podge is fully dry, add a layer of Dimensional Magic to the top of the pendant (over your image) and let dry overnight. Step 7: Attach the jump ring to your pendant. Cut a piece of cord to your desired length and thread it through the jump ring. Attach the ends of the cord to the neodymium jewelry clasps and secure in place. Step 8: Clasp around your neck and sport your fashionable new necklace with pride!
