Recently, this Apex blogger was taking stock of his apartment—particularly all of the improvements he could make. The problem? This Apex blogger is particularly frugal and balks at making even the most practical purchases. However, as he stared at his wall (devoid of any artwork because he’s too cheap to buy frames), he realized something: he had magnets. This realization begat another: he could not only improve the functionality and aesthetic of his apartment, but also save a good bit of money doing it, all with magnets. Instead of keeping all of these magnet hacks to himself, this Apex blogger got out his trusty laptop, opened a blank doc and set out to share his epiphany. These are his discoveries: Dryer Sheets on the Air Vents This Apex blogger is bachelor and often forgets to tidy up his apartment. For a quick fix, he discovered that putting his favorite brand of dryer sheet over his air vents added an easy refreshment to the stale air in his abode. But Apex blogger, why not just use tape? He considered tape, but tape can leave behind residue easily spotted by his landlord, thus forgoing his precious security deposit—and wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of his thrifty hacks? So, Apex blogger took a few very small disc magnets and affixed the dryer sheet to the metal vents. Now, he breathes a little easier while shoving dirty laundry under his bed. Super-Simple Poster Hanging From his favorite soccer team to a signed tour poster from a beloved music duo, the Apex blogger had many prints he wanted to display. However, that ever-observant landlord would easily notice giant nail holes in the otherwise pristine walls. The Apex blogger was also wary of pushing thumb tacks into his prized posters, lest he ruin them. What to do? He took the otherwise damaging thumbtacks with flat tops and glued some more disc magnets to their heads. Then, he ever-so-delicately pushed them into the drywall (much easier to touch up than nail holes). Then, he placed the corner of each poster over each magnet, placing another magnet on top. Voila! The apartment already felt more like he lived there, and less like he was squatting in some abandoned space. Magnetic Hide-a-Key There was one more problem the Apex blogger needed to tackle. You see, he was quite forgetful, especially when it came to remembering his keys. Those long days spent toiling over writing magnet blogs can really take their toll. However, simply placing a spare under a doormat seemed dangerous, if not a bit cliche. To overcome this, our intrepid hero once again turned to the power of magnets. Taking yet another small disc magnet, the Apex blogger glued one to his spare key and another to underside of the banister leading to his door. Now the Apex blogger can easily get into his apartment even on his most scatterbrained days. These are just a few of the more resourceful uses for a good, strong magnet. All are completely reusable for any number of hacks. Make sure to visit the Fix It With Magnets section of our blog for more great ideas and tips!
