Over the years, we’ve brought you some great DIY ideas for the Halloween season—everything from decorations to costumes to spooky science experiments. Now with the holiday upon us, we thought we’d revisit some of our favorite ideas to help you have the best, magnetic Halloween ever!
  1. Magnetic Pumpkins
A great idea for last-minute decorators. Save yourself the time of carving intricate faces or designs needed for a jack-o-lantern by using magnets! You’ll need:
  • Pumpkin carving tools (key saw, scoop)
  • Paint and paint brushes
  • Pencil and paper
  • Pumpkins (duh)
  • Neodymium disc magnets
First, draw or paint your spooky design on a piece of construction paper. Then, carve out the topic of the pumpkin and scoop out all the “guts” like you normally would. Using your disc magnets, place one on the surface of the paper and another on the inside of the pumpkin. You’re all set!
  1. Creepy Eyeball Magnets
Add a little eeriness to your fridge or any other metallic surface with this super-simple DIY. Here’s what you’ll need: Go through the old magazines to find sets of eyes, making sure they’re big enough to been seen through the stones. Cut the out and glue the onto the back of the stones. Then take a disc magnet and glue it to the back of the picture. There ya go! Make as many as you’d like!
  1. Last-Minute Magnetic Jellyfish Costume
This is one of our favorite DIYs ever and it’s perfect for those of us who procrastinate putting together a costume! You’re sure to be a hit at your next Halloween party once you put it together. First, gather your materials:
  • Umbrella
  • Streamers in any color (preferably something matching the umbrella)
  • Small neodymium disc magnets
  • Battery-operated string lights (optional)
The first step is to assemble your jellyfish’s tentacles. Cut six strands of streamers and attach them to the edge of your umbrella using your disc magnets. Next, take your string lights and wrap them around your umbrella, again using your magnets to hole them in place. From here, you can add googly eyes or other patterns to make your jellyfish costume really stand out! Be creative! These are just a few of the many Halloween DIYs we’ve posted over the years.
