By using clay, artificial leaves, and watercolors, there are plenty of opportunities to use your creative freedom with this magnetic DIY!
What You’ll Need:
- White air drying clay
- Various faux green leaves (found at your local craft store)
- Rolling pin or jar
- Circle cookie cutter
- Watercolor paints
- 1/2" X 1/8" Ceramic Magnets
- Hot glue gun
- Roll out the white clay onto a placemat and flatten/smooth it out with a rolling pin. You can use a round jar if you don’t have a rolling pin. Don’t spread the clay too thin, or else it will crumble and break.
- If your faux greenery has long stems on them, cut the them off. This will make the next steps easier.
- Lay the leaves on the clay where you would like them to go, then gently press them into the clay. Once you’re satisfied on where all the leaves are placed, take the leaves off the clay. This will result in leaf imprints. *You can always flatten out the clay if you change your mind on the placement.
- Use the cookie cutter to cut out circles of the clay where you like the leaf imprints best. Cut out as many full circles as you can from the clay.
- Peel these circles off the mat and place them on a dry, flat surface to allow the clay to dry. The drying process can take 1 to 2 days.
- Once the clay circles are completely hard and dry, it’s time to paint! Use the watercolor paints to paint the imprinted clay a color or colors of your choice. Since these are leaf imprints, earth tone colors look the most natural.
- Once the paint has completely dried, use the hot glue gun to dab a pea-sized amount of glue on the back of each clay circle. Place the magnet on the glue and let dry completely before sticking the magnets on your fridge.
