Back-to-School With Magnets
While kids and parents across the country are soaking up the last fleeting moments of summer sun, educators everywhere are hard at work preparing for a busy and exciting school year ahead! At APEX we know you have a to-do list a mile long, that is why we are here to help you prepare your classroom for the fun of learning with a few simple magnetic hacks that only take a couple of minutes out of your busy schedule. Check out three of our favorite back-to-school magnetic marvels that bring learning to life!
Contact Info Magnet Reminders
Here is what you will need:
- Copy paper
- Printer
- Scissors
- Laminating sheets
- 1/2" x 1/16" disc magnets
What to do:
- Begin by designing your layout in the computer program of your choice and remember to include all relevant contact information that would be helpful to parents (up to 8 rectangular sheets can be printed per 8.5x11 sheet)
- Print enough sheets and a few extras (if needed) to ensure at least one magnet per student
- Laminate your 8.5x11 sheets
- Cut each individual rectangle out
- Place one adhesive-backed magnet per contact paper
- Give each student a magnet that their parents may place on the fridge for easy access
Borrow a Pencil Magnetic Holder
Gather these supplies:
- A cookie sheet (check your local dollar store)
- Rectangular sign stating the purpose of the board (e.g., “Take a pencil if you need one.” )
- Craft paint, adhesive scrapbook paper, glitter glue, or any other craft supplies to decorate your board
- Small metal or wooden clips to attach each pencil to
- 4mm x 1mm magnets
- Hot glue gun
- Pencils
Get started:
- Draw or design a sign for the top of your board detailing its purpose
- Tape or glue your sign on the top of your cookie sheet
- Place a small amount of glue on your magnets and press securely to the back of each clip (allow adequate time for the glue to dry)
- Arrange the clips on your cookie sheet in any pattern you desire
- Decorate your cookie sheet with craft supplies (optional)
- Place a pencil in each clip
Poetry Magnet or Vocabulary Word Board
Pick up these supplies:
- Cookie sheet (check your local dollar store)
- Construction paper or copy paper
- Laminating paper
- 6x1mm disc magnets
- Colored pencils, crayons, markers, etc.
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
Instructions:
- Write a wide variety of words in rectangular blocks filling your 8.5x11 paper
- Laminate your sheet
- Cut each shape out with scissors
- Place a small dab of glue on each magnet and secure to the back of every word (allow adequate time for glue to dry)
- Arrange your words on your cookie sheet and instruct children to identify words or create a poem of their own using these words
