DIY Book Quote Magnets
At Apex, we’re always looking for ways to create customizable magnets for your fridge, and this is no exception. This do-it-yourself project not only makes great decor for your fridge or any other magnetic surface, but also makes a great gift for your fellow book lovers.
Whether you’re favorite book quote comes from a popular series such as Harry Potter, or is from a classic literature novel like To Kill a Mockingbird, these magnets will represent both function and purpose for your kitchen! This DIY is simple, fast and will make you dig into your past as you come up with a collection of your favorite book quotes.
What you’ll need:
- Clear, flat, glass marbles. (These can be found at any craft store)
- Your favorite books. (Note: using actual book pages make the magnets look more authentic, but if you do not have copies of your favorite books to cut out, then you can simply print out the quote.)
- Americana Decou-page (preferably with a matte finish).
- Sponge Applicator
- Scissors
- Multiple 3mm x 1mm Disc - Neodymium Rare Earth Magnets
- A pen
- When picking your quotes out of the books, remember that the print needs to be small enough to fit in the glass marbles (it’s okay if the whole quote doesn’t entirely fit in the marbles). Likewise if you are printing the quotes, make sure you use small enough font and format correctly so that it will fit behind the marbles, remember the marbles are round!
- Place the marble on top of the quote, use a pen to trace around the marble.
- Cut the circle out from the book.
- Use a sponge applicator to apply a thin layer of the decoupage to the side of the paper that has your favorite quote on it.
- Immediately place the marble on top of the quote. Make sure you have the placing correct and let dry.
- Add a thin layer of decoupage to the other side of the quote (now the back of the marble) and let dry.
- Add a thin layer of decoupage to the 3mm x 1mm magnet and stick onto the back of the marble, let dry.
- Repeat with the rest of your favorite quotes!
