Now that trick-or-treating is over, you probably have tons of leftover Halloween candy. And, if you’re part of the 90% of parents that admit to sneaking candy from their kids’ trick-or-treat bags, here’s one way that you can reuse the boxes. If you have candy in the miniature-sized boxes, you can upcycle them into neat fridge magnets. Instead of pitching them into the trash bin, follow these simple steps and create fun, pop art inspired magnets.

Supplies

  • Assortment of candy boxes
  • Glue
  • Craft magnets

Steps

  1. First, take out or eat any candy in the boxes if it isn’t empty.
  2. Be sure to carefully open the box as to not avoid any tearing. You can also use an X-acto knife and slide it under the open tab for a clean open.
  3. Once you have emptied out the contents of the candy boxes, then reseal the box and put a few drops of glue to secure it in place.
  4. Put the side with the candy logo facing down and glue a disc magnet to the back of the box.
  5. Press firmly for a few seconds to make sure it stays in place.
Since the cardboard box can be flimsy when pressing down the magnet, you can fill it with beans or other non perishable item to give it weight. If you choose to do this, do it before Step 3. You can use as many different varieties of candy as you’d like and even expand your fridge magnet collection into other boxed food groups besides candy!
