Even as the holiday season winds down, there’s always someone you forgot to buy gifts for, such as your coworker, your boss, or even a relative who lives too far away to visit. You can make thoughtful fridge magnets or ornaments using photos or images your forgotten friend will like. For example, if your boss has a favorite sports team, you can use a picture of their team mascot or their favorite player for this easy, DIY framed photo. So, if you still have a secret Santa or white elephant gift exchange coming up at work, you can make this magnetic last-minute gift in a few simple steps:

Supplies:

  • Mason jar lids
  • Adhesive magnets
  • Decorative ribbon
  • Hot glue or super glue
  • Pictures

Directions:

  1. Find or print a picture or image that your friend will like.
  2. The magnet will attract the metal lid so save the adhesive side for the photo.
  3. Use the sticky side of the magnet to secure the image in place.
  4. Trim the ribbon to frame the photo inside the mason jar lid.
  5. Glue the ribbon in place using hot glue or super glue.
  6. Now you have a nicely framed photo for your friend or relative to use as a fridge magnet.
If you have more time, you can turn the mason jar framed photo into an ornament for a tree or to hang from a magnetic hook. You can turn it into an ornament with only a few additional tools. First, take the photo off of the mason jar lid. This should be easy since it’s attached using magnetism not glue. Then, poke a small hole into the top of the lid with a hammer and nail. Next, loop some ribbon through the hole and tie it off. Now, put the magnet with the attached photo back in place and you have an ornament of a framed photo. You can get creative with these framed pictures and do a whole family tree or even a themed collage featuring all of your friend’s favorite things.
