In terms of art history, few media date back further than mosaics. Mosaics are typically made of hundreds, if not thousands of tiles, painstakingly arranged to create a larger image. While the traditional way is definitely time-consuming, with a little reverse-engineering and some trusty magnets, you can make your own mosaic out of any image you’d like! From art prints to your favorite sports team’s logo, any image you want can become a unique mosaic. They’re perfect to stick on the fridge or any other metallic surface! Here’s What You’ll Need
  • A high-quality printout or poster
  • Glass tiles (however large or small you like)
  • Marker or pen
  • Scissors or hobby knife
  • Clear decoupage or similar glue
  • Superglue
  • 1/4" x 1/4" x 1/16" Block Magnets
Step 1. Select your image and lie it out flat on a hard surface such as a table or floor. Place the side you want displayed face down. Place one of your glass tiles in the corner and trace it with your marker. Continue doing this until you’ve covered the back of the image. Step 2. Once you’ve traced out the tiles, number each box 1, 2, 3, etc. This will help you keep the pieces organized in case they fall out of order later. Step 3. Cut out each tile piece. Make sure to cut as straight as possible so that your mosaic will look even when finished. Step 4. Once you’ve cut out each of your tiles, use your decoupage glue to attach the image side to the glass. Let dry overnight. Step 5. Glue a block magnet to the back of each tile. Let dry. Step 6. Once everything is dry, arrange your tiles in the right order (or not, be creative) on a refrigerator or any other surface. Not only are these DIY magnetic tiles great for showing off your personal style and tastes, but they also make thoughtful, personalized gifts. Furthermore, this piece of art moves with you. No need to mess around with tape, thumbtacks, or nails. How did your mosaic turn out? Let us know!
