Here’s the perfect craft in honor of National Library Lovers month! If reading and spending time in your local library is your idea of a fun time, you’ll love this DIY. We all know book lovers have their favorite books and novels they will always treasure. With this DIY project, you can now display your favorite books in an adorably cute and creative way! Mini book magnets are a rather easy craft, but the end result looks like you could have bought them them at hobby store! Keep reading to find out how to make these mini book magnets:
What You’ll Need:
- Front and back cover of your favorite book. You can find any cover of any book and format on the computer to print. The front cover portion should measure about 1” x 5/8” and the front and back cover together should measure 1” x 1 1/2”.
- Book-binding glue.
- Small paper clips or rubber bands.
- Plain paper. Any plain white scrap paper will do.
- Scissors.
- Laminator and laminating sheets. If you don’t have access to a laminator, you can use packing tape (heavy duty clear tape).
- 3mm x 1mm Disc Neodymium Magnets.
- Hot glue gun.
- Once you format your front and back cover to the correct measurements, print out the covers. Preferably on thick, durable paper.
- Cut out the cover (both covers together, don’t cut the front and back cover separately).
- Laminate the covers. If you’re using packing tape instead of a laminator, measure the packing tape to correctly go over the covers. This will give the effect of laminate. Cut any extra tape off.
- Fold the “book spine”. Just like a regular book, fold the front and back cover together, so there is a spine in between.
- Cut the plain white paper in 1 inch strips and fold into accordion-like pages. Remember, this is supposed to be a mini replica of a real book, so make sure you add enough paper in to make it look like your favorite 400 page novel!
- Bind the paper or “pages” together. Press down on one side of the stack of pages and glue with the book binding glue on the edge. Immediately put the pages inside the book and press to the spine.
- To let dry and ensure the book and pages set properly, use small paper clips or a rubber band to tightly close the mini books.
- Once the glue is totally dry. Use the hot glue gun to attach the magnet to the back of the book. Let cool and dry completely before sticking on the fridge.
