DIY: Upcycled Magnetic Garden Wall
Spring is gardening season! If you love to grow your own fruits and veggies, but don’t have the land available you can try this DIY for an upcycled garden wall.
Supplies
- Tin cans or buckets
- Potting soil
- Plants/seeds
- Strong Magnets
- Metal sheet
- Drill
Steps
- Hang the metal sheet on a flat wall. The wall can be indoors or outdoors as long as there is sufficient infrastructure to hold it securely in place.
- Take your cleaned, bare tin cans and drill two to three small holes into the bottom.
- Next, hot glue a strong magnet to the back of the tin can. Make sure the magnet’s strength and pull force is more than the weight of the plant.
- Once the magnets have dried, fill the tin cans about ¾ full with potting soil.
- Place plants or seeds into the cans as directed.
- If you are installing the garden wall indoors you’ll need to create a drip tray to avoid damaging flooring with water. You can do this by buying a rectangular tray from a hardware store and attaching magnets to it.
- After all the tin cans have been planted you can stick them to the metal wall in any configuration you like as long as the drip tray is directly below them and no more than 2 to 3 inches away to avoid splashing. If installed outdoors, you do not have to worry about this.
- When it comes to keeping track of your gardening gloves, magnets can come in real handy. Keep track of those pesky gloves by sewing magnets into the wrists, and they will stick to your gardening bucket.
- If you don’t have the space for your own garden but want some low maintenance plant life you can make some terrariums with magnets! Our favorite DIY terrarium magnet tutorial is from the Ruffled Blog.
