We all love taking and displaying pictures, but it’s not always easy finding creative and innovative ways to display them. In fact, in this day-in-age, your collection of pictures is more likely to remain on your phone than on exhibit in your home. Luckily, magnets are here to save the day again! If you’re looking for ways to display your cherished memories, but are tired of the basic frames on a shelf, we have a great DIY for a creative (and magnetic) replacement. What You’ll Need:
  • Small-to-medium circular slices of light wood (like pine), with flat sides (found at most local craft stores). Large enought support 4”x8” prints.
  • Wax paper
  • Plain, white printer paper
  • Computer and printer (with color ink)
  • ¼” x ⅛” Disc Neodymium Magnets (we recommend four per pictures)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Adhesive glue
Steps:
  1. First things first—you’ll need to print the picture in order to be transferred from the wax paper to the wood. Cut a portion of the wax paper and use the adhesive glue to stick the wax paper onto one side of the printer paper. Put the paper into the printer, so the ink will print on the wax side of the paper.
  2. Choose which picture you will transfer. Make sure you format the picture so that it will be small enough to fit on to the wood. The picture does not have to be round like the wood, but you’ll want to consider fitting the entire image onto the wood.
  3. Print the picture onto the wax/printer paper. The ink will not absorb into the wax paper, instead it will sit on top. Therefore, you will need to be careful not to touch the ink, or it will smudge.
  4. Carefully flip the wax side of the paper (with the ink) over and place it on one of the flat sides of the wood. Once the paper is set on the wood, gently press and rub the ink in, without actually moving the paper around (again, this will smudge the ink).
  5. Once you press the ink onto the wood for 2-3 minutes, lift the paper up, beginning on one side and peel until the entire paper is off the wood.
  6. Let the ink dry completely on the wood. Not all of the ink will transfer, but enough of it to make a rustic looking replica of your picture should remain.
  7. On the other side of the wood, use the hot glue gun to glue on the magnets. Let the magnets dry and set before sticking onto the fridge or filing cabinet.
