If you've read the Apex Magnets blog, you probably know that magnets can be incredibly useful in a variety of applications. For instance, magnets and their unique properties have been used to revolutionize the way people organize, from their bathroom cabinet at home to their cubicle at work. Not only are magnets useful, but they are also great for transforming everyday furniture into artwork. In this blog post, we're looking closely at the Float Desk and Floating Bed, which are two pieces of furniture that are also artwork.

Float Table

RockPaperRobot, a furniture and lighting boutique, created a the Float Table with the power of magnetism. Essentially, the Float Table resembles a wooden Rubik's Cube; however, none of the cubes touch and it appears that they are levitating in the air. If you put pressure on the cubes though, the pieces around it change position. According to RockPaperRobot, the Float Bed consists of magnetized wooden cubes. These magnetized wooden cubes maintain equilibrium with tensile steel cables.

Floating Bed

RockPaperRobot isn't the first company to explore the idea of magnetic furniture. For instance, Universe Architecture designed the Floating Bed, which uses a non-degrading magnetic support system and four thin cables to suspend a mattress in midair. The bed appears fragile-looking, but it can actually hold over 1,500 pounds! This futuristic, luxurious bed is worth 1.6 million dollars and comes with custom covers, making it the most expensive bed.
