Geometric shapes are certainly trendy right now. They pair well with many modern aesthetics because of their clean lines meant to represent simplicity or minimalist design styles. This DIY magnetic project is not only a wonderful accent for your modern decor, but it is also extremely easy to make (keeping with the whole minimalism trend)! These modern hexagon magnets might look like you bought them at a upscale store, but it really took you all of 20 minutes to make. Keep reading to learn how to make these geometric magnets that will be sure to complement your modern aesthetic! What You’ll Need:
  • 1.25” x ⅛” wooden hexagon pieces. These are usually sold at your local craft and supply store in the amount of 25 to 50 pieces.
  • 1” x ⅛” wooden hexagon pieces. These are slightly smaller and usually come in a bigger pack of 100 pieces. (Meaning you can make plenty of these decorations!)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Painters tape, 0.5” width.
  • 1” x ⅛” Ceramic Disc Magnets
  • Assorted acrylic craft paint of your choice.
  • Optional: wood stain color of your choice.
Steps:
  1. These hexagon pieces are raw, light wood, so if you would like the hexagons to be darker or have a more rustic feel, stain the hexagon pieces. Let the stain dry completely before moving onto the next step.
  2. Using a small piece of painter's tape, tape off the area you would like to paint. If you want the sharp, modern lines, we recommend taping corner-to-corner. Smooth any bubbles down in the tape so the paint does not go underneath.
  3. Using the acrylic craft paint, paint the hexagon pieces in various complementary colors. Let the hexagons dry completely.
  4. Take the hot glue gun, add a small, pea-sized amount of glue to your magnet. Press the magnet onto the back of the hexagon. Let it cool and dry completely.
  5. Stick the hexagon magnets on your fridge and voila! Your kitchen is instantly a modern style aficionado’s paradise!
