What You Will Need
Gather the following supplies:- Plastic bag (gallon bags are recommended)
- Cardboard, foam board, or cardstock
- Markers, paint, or colored pencils
- Glitter (optional)
- Duct tape (try selecting a colorful option for more fun)
- Iron filing (available on our website)
- Magnet (1/2" x 1/16" disc magnets are recommended)
- Large popsicle stick (available at your local craft store)
- Hot glue
What to Do
With your supplies in hand, follow these steps:- Cut your cardboard, foam board, etc. to fit within your plastic bag
- Draw your favorite animal, place, etc., using your preferred writing utensil (add glitter if desired)
- Place your drawing inside your plastic bag
- Add approximately one tablespoon of iron filings to your bag
- Press the air out of the bag and seal it
- For added protection, secure the zipper seal with a piece of duct tape
- Make your magnetic wand by securing your magnet to a popsicle stick with a dab of hot glue
- Begin creating your magnetic masterpiece by taking your magnetic wand and pressing it against your plastic bag, causing the iron filings to follow
- Continue to move the wand across the image inside the bag to create fun details on top of your drawing (examples: add a mane to a lion, puffs to a poodle, or dirt to a dump truck drawing)
- Lay the bag flat and admire your artwork before starting all over by giving the bag a gentle shake
