With summer vacation almost here, it is a perfect time to start saving some activities for rainy days. Our DIY Painted Bird Magnets are the perfect craft for such an occasion. This project can be enjoyed by all ages and is a great way to familiarize kids with some of the birds they will see out in the yard. Follow along as we bring these birds to life. 

Supplies

Purchase your magnets on our online store. All magnets necessary to complete this project are linked in the full supply list below. We offer same-day shipping if your order is placed by 3 PM EST, allowing you to start creating as soon as possible. All other supplies can be purchased at your favorite craft store. 

 

You will need the following items:

 

  • Acrylic paint in orange, black, and a few other colors of your choosing
  • Paintbrush
  • Disc magnets (1” x 1/16”)
  • Rocks 
  • Tacky Glue
  • Scissors
  • Felt (Orange, black, and other colors that match your paint)

Steps

This project is a lot of fun but requires a bit of waiting due to the paint drying. Consider using this time for a nature walk and seeing which birds you can find. 

 

  1. Determine what colors you would like to paint your birds.
  2. Gather all materials. 
  3. Paint one side of your rocks with your selected colors and let them dry.
  4. Next, grab the felt that matches the base color of the bird and cut out a small piece to use as a wing. Glue it down and then add any extra details with a marker. Allow it to dry.
  5. While your wing is drying, create a beak and eyeball using the black and orange felt. Wait for everything to dry.
  6. Flip over your rock and glue your disc magnet to the side without the bird’s features. Let that dry.
  7. Now, you can hang up these fun magnets wherever you please!
