This simple project can be a great introduction to using resin for even more exciting crafts. Follow along to bring this project to life. 

Supplies

You can purchase the magnets you need by visiting our online store. All of the magnets necessary to complete this project are linked in the full supply list below. We also offer same-day shipping if your order is placed by 3 PM EST, allowing you to start your project sooner. All other supplies can be purchased at your favorite craft store. 

 

You will need to gather:

 

  • Silicone mold of any shape large enough to fit your leaves 
  • Leaves
  • Microwave
  • Disc magnets (8mm x 2mm)
  • Resin + hardener kit
  • Glue
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic cup
  • Silicone stirring stick
  • Rubber gloves 

Steps

We recommend that nobody under the age of 12 create these magnets due to the use of resin. Adult supervision is required for children over 12/young teenagers who want to give this craft a try. 

 

Follow these steps:

 

  1. Go outside and find some colorful leaves that you like.
  2. Gather all materials.
  3. Place your leaves between paper towels and microwave them for 30 seconds. If they are not dry, continue microwaving them in five-second intervals. They should be dried out before moving forward, but not too brittle.
  4. Put on your rubber gloves.
  5. Mix your resin and hardener in a plastic cup and stir it with your silicone stirring stick.
  6. Pour your mixture into the slots on your silicone mold, filling each space about halfway.
  7. Let it sit for a few minutes and then add one leaf to each compartment. Add more of the mixture until you are near each slot's top. Let everything dry for 24 hours. 
  8. Remove each mold from its respective compartment and glue a disc magnet to one side. Allow it to dry and enjoy your gorgeous new magnets!
