Everyone has a junk drawer full of miscellaneous things like buttons, spare change, loose beads, keychains, paper clips, pens, take-out menus, tape, scissors, user manuals for appliances, batteries, thumbtacks, nail clippers, and maybe a flashlight. You’re probably overwhelmed reading that list and you’re not even looking for anything yet! You’ve probably tried to organize it once or twice already to make it easier to find things when you need them. Keeping a junk drawer organized is not easy though. So, here’s how you can keep your junk drawer organized using neodymium magnets!

1. Decide what you need and what you don’t need.

Empty your junk drawer and put everything into two piles based on what you use and what you don’t use. Test any spare batteries you have before putting them in a pile. If they don’t work anymore, recycle them so they aren’t cluttering your drawer. Do the same for the take-out menus (Do you really need the menu for the restaurant around the corner that closed two months ago?), pens, user manuals, and so on.

2. Glue magnets to everything!

Now, use super glue to attach small magnets to the pens, tape, scissors, and flashlight. For the heavier items like the flashlight make sure you use powerful rare earth magnets. Once these items are magnetized you can put them on the fridge or a whiteboard where they are easier to find and use. To organize the user manuals and take-out menus, glue neodymium magnets to clothespins. Then you can use the magnetized clothespin to hold the manuals and menus on the fridge as well. For the remaining items, you can create drawer dividers out of spare cardboard and put them in your designated junk drawer. Glue a magnet in between the dividers. The metal objects like paperclips, thumbtacks, scissors, and batteries will attract to the magnet, which will keep them from jostling around in the drawer. Apex Magnets Can Be Used Anywhere!
