Magnetic Upcycled Cork Decor
At Apex, we love products with multiple functions. This DIY cork project not only features an item you can use for various reasons, but can also be upcycled into a product that is arguably higher-quality than the original. We have discussed other magnetic cork projects, however, this one will be sure to fancy your inner-artist. These upcycled cork decorations are fast and simple to make, and create great magnets for your fridge.
What You’ll Need:
- Corks
- Sharp knife or small saw
- Paint, ink, and stamps
- 5mm eye screws (optional)
- 5mm x 1mm multiple disc magnets
- Hot glue gun
- Cut the corks into half-inch slices with a sharp knife or small saw. Use a vice to keep the corks in place while you cut.
- Sand cork edges down until they become smooth and round (sliced corks should be circle-shaped).
- This is the step where you can add a personal and artistic flare! Paint one flat side of the cork a color of your choice. Let paint dry completely. Then, if you choose, use ink and a stamp for a fun design on top of the paint. Typewriter font stamps pair nicely with corks and can be found at your local craft store. If you wish, you can insert the 5mm eye screw to the painted cork. This would allow you to hang wine charms or light weight decorative items to "jazz up" your cork display.
- Use the hot glue gun to add a pea-size amount of glue on the back of the cork.
- Add magnet on top of glue. Wait for glue to completely dry and magnet to set.
