Your kitchen is getting an upgrade, but not in the way that you think! Fresh to the market of appliances, a new compact blender is the first of its kind to use a permanent magnet power source rather than that of a traditional motor. Reported to be almost silent due to its internal makeup, the millo blender claims the only sound you can hear comes from the blades chopping whatever you placed inside the chamber.  Appropriately named, the blender uses Magnetic Air Drive technology (MAD), a powerful but efficient magnetic field generator, which employs the use of a spinning magnetic disk. A hermetically sealed lid also serves to dampen any noise that the unit would otherwise create.

Powering The Next Generation of Appliances?

You may be asking, how does this technology actually work? "In the first version, we had a brushless motor with a row of permanent magnets attached on top of it. Those magnets would form a so-called magnetic coupling with the magnets in the smart blending lid," said millo CEO Adam Trakselis. "Now in millo air, we do not have a spinning motor. Instead, we have a magnetic field generator that turns a row of magnets in the blending lid that are attached to the blades." In addition to improving the design from its first model, the updated magnetic field generator technology is very lightweight and compact, making the blender a great option for those on-the-go or with limited space for kitchen appliances. While the magnetic technology is new, the device is still powered by a 2,500-mAh lithium-ion battery that is not currently able to be replaced once it stops working. While the company continues to innovate and address important issues such as the battery, they do offer a 10-year warranty, ensuring you can keep on blending for years to come.

Setting Their Sites on Sustainability

While this magnetic-powered blender is highly innovative and ahead of its time, the company notes the reason they created it stems from their desire to foster a more sustainable planet. Millo reports that over 57 million tons of electronic waste are generated annually, leaving a massive industry footprint that few are interested in changing. The company announced that the Millo blender, although the first of its kind, will not be the last, with plans to create additional appliances using MAD technology compatible with the same Millo Air Base.
