As the holidays wind down, you’ll soon have to take down all those Christmas, Hanukkah other themed decorations hanging up around your home. Putting holiday items in storage can be hard work. And if that isn’t enough, getting them out the next year can be even harder, especially if you don’t have an organized system to store them.

Store holiday lights with hook magnets.

String lights tangle very easily. They may not be hard to put away, but if you don’t do it carefully, then you’ll most likely pay for it next year with painstaking hours of untangling them. Avoid that by carefully wrapping them in a loose circle, use a twisty tie to keep them bundled together, then hang them up with a hook magnet in a garage or storage area.

Use magnets and magnetic shelves for larger decor.

For some of the bigger items, like yard lights and sets you can attach magnets and create a magnetic shelving unit. This way, the pieces are less likely to get damage by being shoved in boxes or piled on top of another.

Create wrapping paper holders.

If you have leftover tubes of wrapping paper, store them by creating your own shelves. Instead of attaching magnets to them, try using an eye bolt magnet and a rod to hold the wrapping paper like a shelf. You can move the shelf or create new ones simply by moving the magnets.
