Sphere Magnets are small but mighty! Their unique shape and the lines of force they generate provide the highest local gauss readings (the invisible strength) of all magnets. Their greatest strength, however, comes with a trade-off: since they lack surface area, it’s harder for them to grab onto certain surfaces. This means sphere magnets work best when being used with other sphere magnets. These unique magnetic balls are most commonly used for classroom demonstrations, DIY projects, and workplace fun -- Classroom Demonstrations Using a soda bottle, small test tube, iron filings, and sphere magnets, you’ll be able to demonstrate magnetic poles to your students. With this simple demonstration (talked about in detail on this previous post), you can show your students firsthand the lines of force created by magnetic fields. Spherical magnets are also effective tools when demonstrating how some elements and molecules are structured if you use the spheres to represent atoms, as their shape is an easy-to-imagine atom replacement! Like any tool, neodymium magnets can be useful and educational, but must always be treated with care -- so leave the demonstrations to the teachers. DIY:  Magnetic Sandbox With just a shadow box, sand, some sphere magnets, and a bar magnet, you can make your own version of a zen garden without the fear of sand spilling everywhere. Basically, the bar magnet is used as a “wand” on the outside side of the box, moving the sand around with the sphere magnets (inside the box) and bar magnet attraction. After you have your box, you can add personal touches to the box or the “wand” with paint and other decorations. With some practice, you may even be able to create your own magnetic sand art masterpieces like this magic machine! Find a step-by-step tutorial for creating your sandbox on our website. Workplace Fun You’ve probably seen (or heard!) popular desk toys such as Rattlesnake Eggs, which use sphere magnets. By using 10 mm spheres or 5 mm spheres, you can also create bracelets and necklaces, as well as fun shapes to keep yourself entertained! Watch this video for some inspiration! The Possibilities Are Endless! Here at Apex Magnets, we’re always thinking of ways our customers can use our products in their lives.
