Teachers are responsible for a large number of kids, and keeping track of students as they step out to go to the bathroom, main office, or library can be difficult while you are focused on teaching those in the classroom. By using a cookie sheet, you can create a magnetic attendance board that reminds you where all of your students are at any given time. You can also allow students to express themselves and decorate their own rocks. The decision is up to you! Supplies There are a lot of variations of this project, meaning you can really make your board as flashy or subtle as you want. This means some of the supplies for the board will vary depending on what you would like to use. With that in mind, we recommend the following items: Creating Your Attendance Sheet Start by painting the rocks for your students (or allow your students to decorate them) to bring them to life and then create labels on your computer (you could also write on them with a marker). You can either use a number that is associated with the student or use their name. After this, use some glue to put the labels on the rocks.  Next, glue your disc magnets to the back of each rock and let them dry while you work on other steps. You can now work on making labels for locations throughout the school, like the classroom, office, library, bathroom, or even one for students who are home sick. To do this, create a fun design on your computer and print it out on colored construction paper. Glue the back of the labels and place them on the cookie sheet. You can also decorate the border of your sheet by using Washi tape, giving it a fun design that stands out and brings your classroom to life. This can also be used as a divider between locations, keeping the board fresh and organized. Lastly, put some command strips on the back of the cookie sheet and hang it up on the wall by the door. Another option would be to use stronger disc magnets and place the sheet on the whiteboard in the room. As kids come and go, you could have your students move their respective rock to the room they will be in.  Explore Your Creativity at Apex Magnets For more projects like this, plus articles about the many uses of magnets in the real world, check out some of our other blogs.
