In 2013, Nike created a magnetic board that customers can use to build their own concept designs. This allowed customers to customize their garments instead of purchasing mass produced items. Nike tested this idea in one of its stores in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Nike provided customers with strong magnets strong magnets in the shape of shoe parts. Customers could then create unique shoe designs on an interactive magnetic board. Originally, Nike didn't have any plans to mass produce this concept; however, today, consumers can customize a wide range of shoes on Nike's website. Consumers have the ability to choose a sneaker style, material, color, shoe laces, and more. Additionally, if consumers want to recreate Nike's magnetic design tool, they can repurpose an old chalkboard, disc magnets, block magnets and cut-out versions of their favorite shoe designs. They can create unique and innovative designs and then replicate it on the company's website.
