DIY At-Home Desk Created With Magnets
We can all relate to the struggle of not having enough space for our things. When you’re feeling stuck, it’s great to turn to creative ways to maximize your storage space. A creative solution we love? Creating a portable magnetic desk!
What You’ll Need
- 1" x 1/4" Disc - Neodymium Magnets
- 2 standard kitchen cutting boards
- 12” piano hinge
- Paracord
- Clear gorilla glue
- Screws
- To begin, you will take the two cutting boards and place them together -- lay them both flat on a table and lift the top board as if you’re opening it up.
- Apply the piano hinge between the boards to attach them. The key is to have your cutting boards looking similar to an open book once the hinge is connected.
- On the corners of the cutting boards, drill 1 hole per corner. Add the Paracord through the holes on the left side and tie knots on the outside parts of the cutting board. Then repeat on the right. This will create a latch system that will allow you to open and close your “desk”.
- Finally, cut holes in the cutting boards that will allow the magnets to set, and reinforce them with an adhesive. This will allow for the desk to stick to whichever surface you choose! You can also add magnets to the outside of the boards if you want extra support.
