If your green thumb could use a bit of practice, bring the entire family together to try this colorful craft and create your own recycled egg carton flower magnet garden! And do not worry; you never need to remember to water these flowers! Gather a few supplies you likely have around your house and high-quality Apex disc magnets shipped the same day (on all orders placed before 3 PM EST), and ignite imagination! 

Grab Your Supplies, Invite a Friend, and Get Creating

Here is what you will need: 

  • Clear egg cartons or any type you have available 
  • Craft paint
  • Small cups or a paint pallet 
  • Paint brushes 
  • Tape
  • Skewer
  • Pipe cleaners (green works well for stems, but any color will work) 
  • Scissors 
  • Buttons (any color) 
  • Cardboard scraps or a drop cloth
  • 1/2" x 1/8“ disc magnets

What to do: 

  1. Begin by cutting your egg carton into thirds (you will have three flowers with four petals each). 
  2. Trim any sharp or uneven edges from each of your three flowers. 
  3. Prepare your egg cartons for painting by placing a drop cloth, cardboard, or other protective material over your tabletop or work area. 
  4. Tape your egg cartons to your work surface, and allow your child to select paint colors for each flower.
  5. Pour your paint into small cups or a paint pallet, and begin helping your child paint the inside of each egg carton (flower).
  6. Allow your flowers to dry fully before moving on to the next step.
  7. Once dry, poke two holes in the center of your flower directly across from each other.
  8. Next, assist your child with threading a pipe cleaner through one of your buttons.
  9. Place your pipe cleaner through the first of the two holes you poked with your skewer, threading the other side accordingly. 
  10. Twist your pipe cleaner on the back of your flower to create a circular base to attach your magnet. 
  11. Place a small amount of hot glue on your magnet and attach it to the backs of each of your flowers. 
  12. If you like, you may also twist any extra pipe cleaner into a leaf on your flowers. 
  13. Place your new flower magnets
