One company, Gear XS, created a magnetic suction phone device. With this device, you place a magnetic ring on your phone or phone case and attach it to a magnetic suction-cup apparatus that mounts onto your front dashboard. The company reported that
the suction cup can also be affixed to other surfaces, such as an office desk, to provide users with a platform for easy cellphone viewing.
Although this strategy utilizes magnets, this product has been optimized to work with smartphones. Consumers shouldn't attempt to build their own mount, as common
disc magnets or
cube magnets can permanently damage electronic devices.
Are Magnetic Smartphone Holders Safe?
Because of their wide use, some consumers are unsure if these magnetic holders will damage their device. However, these magnetic phone mounts will not damage your phone. Magnets will not inhibit your phone's display, memory, or battery. However, sometimes magnets can interfere with compass readings when attached to the magnetic stand.
