Researchers from Sea Wave Energy Ltd. (SWEL) say they have developed the technology to create clean energy using sea waves. The team also claims their device will be the cheapest form of renewable energy due to the low maintenance requirements of the magnetic spine used to produce the electricity. How Waves Create Electricity  SWEL, which is based out of the United Kingdom, says the mechanism is called the ‘Waveline Magnet’ and is made from recycled materials. In order for it to work, the row of floats are placed on top of the water. From here, they are able to harvest the kinetic energy produced by the waves thanks to the levers connected to the power system, helping it rotate the generators inside. The magnet is also capable of recognizing the speed and size of the oncoming waves, which allows it to determine how to absorb its energy in the most efficient way.  Testing Several prototypes of the Waveline have undergone testing in wave pools at a number of universities in the United Kingdom. Additionally, some versions have actually been evaluated in open bodies of water. SWEL says they are still reviewing all of the data, but claims the converter is capable of generating up to 100 megawatts of energy. The company claims the Waveline will not be negatively impacted by storms or rough weather, stating that it could actually improve the energy output.  Test the Waters of Apex Magnets At Apex Magnets, we have products capable of getting the job done on land or at sea.
