Once spring arrives, flora and fauna will be back in full force! Flying back from their winter homes, the birds will be looking for new lodging for the spring and summer months. Make it easy for them with a simple magnetic DIY bird feeder. In no time, you’ll be playing host to all sorts of feathered friends. What you’ll need:
  • An empty plastic bottle and lid, washed out
  • Craft knife
  • 1/2" x 1/8" disc magnet
  • Hot glue gun
  • Wooden pencils or bamboo skewers
How to put it all together:
  1. Using your craft knife, cut out a circle on the side of the bottle approximately 1 inch in diameter.
  2. Then, using the craft knife again, poke a small hole directly under the 1-inch hole. Feed the wooden pencil or skewer through the hole until it touches the opposite side of the bottle. Poke a hole there too and push the pencil through so that it sticks out just a bit.
  3. With the hot glue gun, cover the edges of that hole with glue to secure the pencil or skewer in place. This way, the skewer will stay put but the glue won’t be near the feeding hole for the birds to pick at.
  4. Glue half of your neodymium magnet to the top of the bottle’s cap and the other half somewhere around the outside of your home. This will be the hanging place for your new bird feeder. The magnet will make it easy to remove the feeder and refill it when it’s empty. The 1/2" x 1/8" disc magnet has a pull force of 6.1 lbs, so you won’t have to worry about it falling down.
