When you’re in the kitchen making dinner or cleaning up, do you ever find yourself struggling to remember where you put the dish towel? You turn right, you turn left, you make a full circle, and only then do you finally find it all the way down the counter. By sewing a magnet into your dish towels, you give yourself the option to stick it in the most convenient places — the fridge or the dishwasher.

6 Steps to Make Magnetic Dish Towels

  1. Gather your materials:
    1. A dish towel
    2. A sewing magnet
    3. Sew-in Velcro
    4. Sewing machine or needle and thread
  2. Place the sewing magnet on the top left corner of your dish towel; sew it into place.
    1. When sewing, only stitch within the textured edge of the plastic pouch.
  3. Fold down a triangle of fabric over the magnet, making sure there is about an inch of the border area to lay the Velcro.
  4. Align and pin the Velcro down along the left-hand side of the corner and horizontally below (make sure one side is the hook strip).
  5. Slowly sew around the perimeter of the Velcro.
  6. Fold-down the corner of the towel, attach the Velcro and sew the opposite side of the folded triangle shut.
  7. At this point, you should have one side that is sewn shut and one side with a Velcro fixing; close it.
Note: These magnetic towels are safe to put through the wash. Our sewing magnets are protected from water and exposure to moisture. If, however, you need to replace the magnet for any reason, the Velcro opening allows you to do so.
