DIY Thumbprint Heart Magnets
While the calendar has seemingly just flipped to 2024, it is already time to start getting in the spirit of Valentine’s Day! Not only can these magnets be placed around the house, but they can also be given as a gift to make a loved one’s day even more special. Follow along as we bring this fun and simple magnet craft to life. Supplies Your magnets can be purchased at Apex Magnets through our online store. Links to the magnets needed for this experiment are included below in our full supplies list. You will even get same-day shipping if you place your order by 3 PM EST. Other items can be purchased at your favorite craft store. Gather the following items: Fingerprint ink pads (ink color should be red, although you can use others if you choose. Maybe even colors similar to candy hearts to keep the Valentine’s theme!) Disc magnets (8mm x 2mm) Light colored cardstock (white, ivory, etc.) Large clear glass gems Marker (choose a color that will show up on your ink.) Clear drying glue Foam brush Scissors Optional: Extra items to make your gems unique like lace, jewelry pins, etc. Steps Once you have purchased all of the necessary materials, you can start the Valentine’s Day fun! Make sure you have cleared out some space on a table before beginning and have everything you need nearby. *As always, be sure to have an adult nearby if kids are making these crafts. Follow these steps to create your Valentine’s Day magnets: Dip your thumb into the ink pad and then press it down onto the cardstock twice, making a heart shape as you do so. Repeat this step as many times as necessary to darken the color of the heart and make it easier to see. Make as many hearts on your cardstock as you would like and wait for the ink to dry before continuing. Write messages on the hearts to replicate candy hearts. Ex: “Be Mine”, “Happy Valentine’s Day”, etc. Carefully place some glue on the flat side of your gems and press them down gently onto your hearts so the ink does not smear. Use a foam brush to spread out the glue. Wait for everything to dry. Grab your scissors and cut away the extra paper surrounding your hearts. Glue your disc magnets on the back of your hearts and allow them to dry. You can also add your lace, jewelry pins, and more to make certain gems stand out from the rest. Enjoy your fun Valentine’s Day crafts! Continue reading → -
